EGO was established in 2006. A performance company that delivers accessible, original and diverse creative projects.

EGO has developed many strands that offer training and opportunities in theatre making, music, comedy and film. With weekly sessions for children from 4 years old through to Adults and the Elderly. Most recently we have developed an entire program of work to meet the needs of young people and adults with learning disabilities.

EGO Arts Venue was launched in 2011 in response to the lack of suitable and affordable creative space in the city. The Venue was a concept imagined by young people and with support from our members, volunteers and funders, we made it a reality. EGO is proud of the fact that it is the only arts venue in the UK that is programmed and managed by a Youth Management Team. We gained charitable status in 2012 and we are honoured to have Lady Susie Sainsbury as our Patron.

In 2014 we launched a youth enterprise Café EGO boasting a vegetarian and vegan menu, the only meat free zone in the city, from which all profits go back into supporting our charity. In 2015 we set up a meal bank service in our Café to provide healthy meals for the homeless, refugees and those who needs it most.

The venue began life as two warehouses.  With support from the Tudor Trust we refurbished the space and created a front of house area with a Café and licenced bar,  with a fully equipped flexible studio space.  Our audience capacities are up to 300 standing, 180 seated with tables or up to 80 on a rake.  The studio is an adaptable space for theatre, music, film, cabaret, comedy and pretty much any event that doesn’t require a high ceiling!  (we’ve even had a wedding)

As well as the main studio, we have a music rehearsal room with recording facilities, artist studios and a smaller workshop space that can be used for meetings, readings & sessions for smaller groups.

All our spaces are available to hire. For information please contact us.

In 2016 EGO celebrated its 10th year! Our aim is to purchase the building and we have launched EGO 1.1 to raise the funds.  To own our building means we can provide two flexible performance spaces with large audience capacities and disabled access, two studio spaces, a music studio, workshop spaces, artist studios and our café bar. This new venue will enable us to offer even more training, support and resources required to create innovative, relevant and exciting projects that benefit those most in need. It will offer affordable spaces available for hire, helping to build a resilient arts community in our city.
