EGO’s music provision. This is a great opportunity for those of you who are just learning to play an instrument, and for those who can already play but rarely get the chance to perform to anyone. EGO Rocks is a place where young people work with adult musicians who have years of experience of playing and gigging with bands.

EGO Rocks get together, decide a play list and perform regular gigs at local music venues, a mixture of covers and their own music, aiming to play entirely original material.

The bands are not exclusive; if you’re just starting off you may just want to play one song in the gig, that’s fine, there will be someone else to jump in and take over until eventually you find you’re confident to play a whole set.

We think it’s great if a group of young people form their own band, we will help them as much as we can by offering the professional mentoring and support they need to get going.

You were better than us when we were your age – Roddy Radiation from The Specials

I was really terrified before I went on but I felt fantastic after the gig – EGO member aged 12

I was crying, seeing them up there doing so brilliantly! – Audience Member

It’s great to play with a band instead of just going to lessons and practicing for nothing – EGO member aged 17

EGO Rocks Diary

What’s On

Its rehearsals galore for EGO Rocks. Most nights of the week are taken up by one of our many bands, all of which are preparing to play a gig in April at the Quadrant Club.

Mooloo Band had already started meeting regularly to prepare for the next Super EGO show, an original musical first performed in 2007. “Dr. Mooloo the Moosical” will incorporate this full live band, featuring Dan from The Specialists on drums and Jack from Runny Hunny and Agent of Kaos on bass. And we do mean a FULL live band, as in true EGO style we’re including some less traditional instruments. Think the saw and the kazoo.

Looking toward the future, we’ve made connection with the music team over at The Venny in Wood End, and our fingers are crossed that we’ll get to learn more about what they’re doing over there, as we share more with them about what EGO Rocks is all about. Who knows, maybe a collaboration could be in our future.

Fees

EGO costs just £6 a week. Your £6 is all-inclusive, so drop in to one session, or join as many as you like! No matter how many times you drop by in a week it won’t cost you any more.  If money is tight and the fees are preventing you from getting involved please let us know, we may be able to help.
